Kitchen Hacks - Part 3
Welcome to the third installment of our kitchen hacks series, where we bring you more clever tips and tricks to make your time in the kitchen easier and more efficient. From cooking to cleaning, these hacks will help you streamline your kitchen routine and impress your guests with your culinary skills.
1. Ripen Avocados Quickly
Need a ripe avocado in a hurry? Place it in a brown paper bag with a banana or apple. The fruits release ethylene gas, which speeds up the ripening process of the avocado.
2. Prevent Potatoes from Sprouting
To prevent potatoes from sprouting, store them with an apple. The ethylene gas produced by the apple will help keep the potatoes fresh for longer.
3. Revive Stale Bread
Sprinkle stale bread with water and bake it in the oven for a few minutes. The moisture will revive the bread, making it soft and fresh again.
4. Easy Eggshell Removal
If you accidentally get eggshells in your cracked egg, wet your fingers before trying to remove them. The water will help the shells stick to your fingers, making it easier to fish them out.
5. Keep Lettuce Fresh
After washing lettuce, spin it in a salad spinner and store it in a paper towel-lined airtight container. The paper towel will absorb excess moisture, keeping the lettuce crisp and fresh for longer.
6. Prevent Boil-Over
Placing a wooden spoon across the top of a pot prevents it from boiling over. The spoon breaks the bubbles, preventing them from spilling over the edge.
7. DIY Buttermilk
Ran out of buttermilk? Mix one cup of milk with one tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar and let it sit for a few minutes. Voila! You have a homemade buttermilk substitute.
